This crowd-pleasing Mexican appetiser features layers of seasoned ground beef cooked with green pepper, topped with fresh tomato, green onions and a kick of hot taco sauce. A generous layer of sour cream and sharp Cheddar cheese is added before baking until perfectly melted. It yields 20 servings and is ready in about 35 minutes, ideal for serving with plenty of tortilla chips for dipping.
Ingredients
- cooking spray
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 package taco seasoning mix
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 bunch green onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoons hot taco sauce, or more to taste
- 1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
- 1 (8 ounce) package shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1 (14.5 ounce) package tortilla chips, or more as needed
Method
- Set your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Use cooking spray to coat a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
- Place a large skillet on the heat. Brown the ground beef in it, stirring until crumbly, for 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off the fat. Mix in the chopped bell pepper and the taco seasoning. Transfer this mixture to the prepared dish.
- Scatter the chopped tomato and green onions over the beef layer. Drizzle the 2 tablespoons of hot taco sauce on top. Cover this with the sour cream, then finish with the shredded Cheddar cheese.
- Place the dish in the oven and bake until the cheese has melted and is bubbling, which will take 10 to 20 minutes. Offer tortilla chips alongside for serving.
