Homemade Hummus
This classic homemade hummus recipe uses simple pantry staples like chickpeas, tahini and fresh lemon juice. Blended together in a food processor, it creates a wonderfully creamy and flavourful dip. It takes only 5 minutes to prepare and yields enough for six servings. Once made, store it in the fridge where it will keep well for a few days, ready to be enjoyed with pita bread or fresh vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans (drained, rinsed)
- 1 medium garlic clove, pressed (about 1 teaspoon worth)
- 1/4 cup tahini
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup water
Method
- Combine every listed ingredient in the bowl of a food processor.
- Process the mixture for about 45 seconds until it becomes completely smooth and well blended.
- Transfer the prepared hummus into a container with a tight fitting lid.
- Refrigerate the hummus until it is thoroughly chilled. It will remain fresh for 2-3 days.
