Hawaiian Ham and Cheese Sliders
These popular sliders combine sweet Hawaiian rolls with layers of sliced ham and Swiss cheese. They are topped with a flavourful sauce made from butter, onion, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds and Worcestershire sauce. Baked until golden, they are an ideal choice for gatherings or a simple lunch. The recipe yields 12 sliders and takes about 50 minutes to prepare from start to finish.
Ingredients
- cooking spray (such as Crisco®)
- 0.5 cup butter
- 1 onion, minced
- 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, or more to taste
- 1 (12 count) package Hawaiian sweet rolls, split, or more as needed
- 1 pound sliced deli ham, or more as needed
- 8 slices Swiss cheese, or more as needed
Method
- Collect your ingredients. Heat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Use cooking spray to coat a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Place butter in a saucepan to melt. Cook the minced onion in the butter until soft, which will take 5 to 10 minutes. Stir in the Dijon mustard, poppy seeds and Worcestershire sauce, then cook for another 5 minutes.
- Put the bottom halves of the sweet rolls into the greased dish. Spread about 2/3 of the prepared onion sauce over them.
- Layer slices of ham and Swiss cheese onto each roll base.
- Position the roll tops over the cheese. Use the rest of the onion mixture to brush over the tops.
- Cover the entire baking dish with aluminium foil.
- Bake in your heated oven for 15 minutes. Take off the foil and continue baking until the tops of the rolls are a light brown colour, about 5 to 10 minutes.
