Ham-Filled Biscuits With Honey-Mustard Dipping Sauce
These savoury little sandwiches are a speedy option for a snack, appetiser, or accompaniment to a light meal. The key component is the honey-mustard dipping sauce, which adds a sweet and tangy flavour that complements the ham and buttermilk biscuits perfectly. You can prepare the biscuits a day ahead, storing them in an airtight container, for easy assembly when needed. The recipe yields 20 servings and takes just 49 minutes from start to finish.
Ingredients
- 1 (12 ounce) can pillsbury big country refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (the layer type doesn't work as well)
- 1 tablespoon stone ground mustard
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 20 slices deli-sliced cooked ham
- 3 tablespoons stone ground mustard
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons honey
Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F.
- Slice every biscuit crosswise to create two half-moon pieces, then arrange them on a cookie sheet without greasing.
- Use the back of a teaspoon to evenly coat the biscuit tops with 1 tablespoon of mustard.
- Bake the biscuits for 10 to 14 minutes until they turn a golden brown colour.
- Move the baked biscuits onto a wire rack and allow them to cool completely.
- While the biscuits cool, mix the chopped green onions with the softened butter in a small bowl until well combined.
- Once cooled, split each biscuit and spread roughly 1/4 teaspoon of the butter mixture onto both halves.
- Loosely roll each ham slice and place it on a biscuit bottom, then replace the top half to form a sandwich.
- For the sauce, blend 3 tablespoons of mustard with the mayonnaise and honey in a separate bowl.
- Pour the finished sauce into a small dish suitable for serving.
- Arrange the prepared sandwiches on a platter around the dipping sauce for presentation.
