Gingerbread Syrup
This simple gingerbread syrup is a wonderful homemade gift idea, perfect for the festive season. It infuses a warm, spiced flavour into a variety of drinks and desserts. You can stir it into hot chocolate or warm apple juice, add a splash to Prosecco, or drizzle it over ice cream. It is quick to prepare and can be stored for a long time.
Ingredients
- 300g golden caster sugar
- 1 tbsp ground ginger
- 1 cinnamon stick
- edible gold glitter (optional)

Method
- Combine the golden caster sugar, 200ml water and ground ginger in a saucepan. Place the cinnamon stick in the pan and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Let it simmer for 5 mins until all the sugar has dissolved, then mix in a small amount of edible gold glitter if using. Transfer the syrup into a sterilised 500ml bottle.
- For a decorative touch, you can secure a cinnamon stick to the bottle's neck with a ribbon. The syrup will remain good for up to 1 year.
