French Fried Onions

Ingredients

  • vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3 large vidalia onions

Method

  1. Cut the onions into rings approximately 1/4 inch thick and pull them apart.
  2. Preheat your oven to 300. Pour oil into a fryer to a depth of about one inch and heat it to 375 degrees. Whisk together all the listed ingredients except the onions until you have a smooth batter. Coat each onion ring in the batter, letting any extra drip back into the bowl. Cook a small batch of rings in the hot oil for around 2 minutes, flipping them once, until they turn a golden brown colour, then drain them. Place the fried onions on cookie sheets and keep them warm in the preheated oven.
