Caramelized Onion Pork Chops
This straightforward dinner requires just five minutes of active preparation. Pork loin chops are seasoned and browned before simmering with onion strips in a covered skillet. The slow cooking process tenderises the meat and allows the onions to become soft and sweetly caramelised. It's a classic American dish that pairs wonderfully with simple parsley potatoes for a comforting meal. The entire process takes about 45 minutes from start to finish.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 4 (4 ounce) pork loin chops, 1/2 inch thick
- 3 teaspoons seasoning salt
- 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
- 1 onion, cut into strips
- 1 cup water
Method
- Collect the required ingredients.
- Coat the pork chops using 2 teaspoons of the seasoning salt and 1 teaspoon of the black pepper.
- Warm the oil in a skillet. Sear the chops on both sides. Introduce the onion strips and 1 cup of water to the pan. Place the lid on, lower the heat, and let it simmer for 20 minutes.
- Flip the chops and sprinkle with the rest of the seasoning salt and pepper. Cover the pan again and continue cooking until the liquid has gone and the onions are a light to medium brown colour.
- Take the pork chops from the skillet and plate them with the cooked onions arranged on top.
