Sausage Stuffing
This clever recipe transforms a boxed stuffing mix into a savoury side dish that tastes completely homemade. Ground breakfast sausage is cooked with chopped celery and onion, then combined with the prepared stuffing. It's a wonderfully flavourful and quick option for a holiday meal, ready in just 25 minutes. The sage in the sausage adds a classic, comforting note perfect for your festive table.
Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package ground breakfast sausage
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 3 cups water
- 0.5 cup butter
- 2 (6 ounce) packages dry bread stuffing mix
Method
- Place the sausage, celery, and onion in a skillet. Cook while stirring often until the sausage is browned and broken into small pieces, 5 to 7 minutes. Move the mixture to a plate with paper towels to drain the oil.
- Bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a large saucepan. Mix in the butter until it has dissolved. Add the dry stuffing mix, put the lid on, and take the pan off the heat. Leave it to sit for 5 minutes. Stir in the cooked sausage mixture until everything is well combined.
