Cilantro Lime Grilled Tofu
This recipe offers a delicious way to enjoy tofu from the barbecue, featuring a vibrant tropical marinade. The extra firm tofu is pressed, sliced and coated in a zesty blend of lime juice, honey, cumin, garlic and fresh cilantro. After marinating for a minimum of two hours, the slabs are grilled until nicely browned. It's an excellent vegetarian option for outdoor cooking.
Ingredients
- 454 g extra firm tofu, well-pressed
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 teaspoons cumin powder
- 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes
- salt and pepper, to taste
Method
- Press the tofu thoroughly and cut it into eight thick pieces.
- Combine all the other ingredients in a bowl and whisk them together.
- Place the tofu slabs in the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated.
- Transfer the tofu to the refrigerator to marinate for at least two hours, or leave it overnight.
- To prevent sticking, spray your barbecue grill with non-stick cooking spray or rub it with oil before heating.
- Cook the tofu on a pre-heated grill for 6-7 minutes per side until browned, using extra marinade to brush it occasionally.
