This recipe offers a delicious way to enjoy tofu from the barbecue, featuring a vibrant tropical marinade. The extra firm tofu is pressed, sliced and coated in a zesty blend of lime juice, honey, cumin, garlic and fresh cilantro. After marinating for a minimum of two hours, the slabs are grilled until nicely browned. It's an excellent vegetarian option for outdoor cooking.

Cilantro Lime Grilled Tofu

Ingredients

  • 454 g extra firm tofu, well-pressed
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Method

  1. Press the tofu thoroughly and cut it into eight thick pieces.
  2. Combine all the other ingredients in a bowl and whisk them together.
  3. Place the tofu slabs in the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated.
  4. Transfer the tofu to the refrigerator to marinate for at least two hours, or leave it overnight.
  5. To prevent sticking, spray your barbecue grill with non-stick cooking spray or rub it with oil before heating.
  6. Cook the tofu on a pre-heated grill for 6-7 minutes per side until browned, using extra marinade to brush it occasionally.
