Chunky Cinnamon Applesauce
This straightforward recipe transforms tart apples into a deliciously chunky cinnamon applesauce using a slow cooker. The apples are cooked with sugar, apple juice and butter until tender, then stirred to create a rustic texture. It can be enjoyed immediately or chilled for later. The process requires minimal effort for a comforting, homemade result.
Ingredients
- 8 medium granny smith apples or 8 medium other tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced into fourths
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup apple juice
- 2 tablespoons margarine or 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Method
- Combine all the listed ingredients in a slow cooker of 3 1/2 to 6 quart capacity.
- Put the lid on and cook using the high heat setting for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, until the apple pieces start to soften and disintegrate.
- Give the mixture a thorough stir to mash any larger remaining chunks of apple.
- This applesauce is ready to be served either warm or after being chilled.
- For a cold version, allow it to cool for about 2 hours, then transfer to containers, cover, and place in the refrigerator until thoroughly chilled.
