Chunky Cinnamon Applesauce

Ingredients

  • 8 medium granny smith apples or 8 medium other tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced into fourths
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons margarine or 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

  1. Combine all the listed ingredients in a slow cooker of 3 1/2 to 6 quart capacity.
  2. Put the lid on and cook using the high heat setting for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, until the apple pieces start to soften and disintegrate.
  3. Give the mixture a thorough stir to mash any larger remaining chunks of apple.
  4. This applesauce is ready to be served either warm or after being chilled.
  5. For a cold version, allow it to cool for about 2 hours, then transfer to containers, cover, and place in the refrigerator until thoroughly chilled.
