Cheesy Potatoes
This comforting potato bake is a classic American side dish. It combines frozen Southern-style hash browns with a rich mixture of cream of potato soup, tangy sour cream and plenty of shredded Cheddar. The casserole is finished with a buttery, crunchy potato chip topping and baked until perfectly golden. It's an ideal accompaniment for a variety of main courses and serves eight people.
Ingredients
- 1 pound frozen Southern-style hash brown potatoes
- 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of potato soup
- 1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
- 1 (16 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese
- 0.5 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup crushed potato chips
Method
- Set your oven to heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- In a large baking dish, combine the frozen hash brown potatoes with the condensed potato soup and sour cream. Stir in the shredded Cheddar cheese and the 0.5 cup of melted butter, seasoning with salt and pepper as desired. Sprinkle the crushed potato chips evenly over the top.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake until the contents are bubbly and have turned a light brown colour, which should take about 1 hour.
- Take the casserole out of the oven and allow it to rest for 15 minutes before you dish it up.
