These juicy burgers have cheese and sautéed mushrooms mixed right into the patty for extra moisture and flavour. They are shaped to fit crusty toasted rolls and pan-fried until cooked through. Ready in just 25 minutes, they are perfect for a quick and satisfying meal with your chosen toppings.

Cheesy Mushroom Burgers

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons oil, divided
  • 1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup shredded monterey jack cheese
  • 3 tablespoons breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 4 crusty French rolls, toasted

Method

  1. Place a large skillet over the heat and warm 2 tablespoons of the oil.
  2. Put the sliced mushrooms, chopped onion and minced garlic into the skillet.
  3. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the onion has softened.
  4. Transfer the cooked mixture to a mixing bowl.
  5. Clean the skillet by wiping it with paper towels.
  6. Add the ground beef, shredded Monterey Jack cheese, breadcrumbs, milk, salt, black pepper and dried thyme to the bowl with the mushroom mixture and combine thoroughly.
  7. Shape the mixture into four patties, making them oval to match the size of your rolls.
  8. Pour the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil into the cleaned skillet and heat it.
  9. Place the burgers in the skillet and cook for 4 to 5 minutes.
  10. Flip the burgers using a spatula and cook for another 4 to 5 minutes, or until they reach your preferred level of doneness.
