Cheesy Ham and Broccoli Pasta
This British main course is a quick and satisfying comfort food. It combines pasta and broccoli florets with a rich, creamy sauce flavoured with English mustard, onion, garlic and chunks of ham, all finished with grated mature cheddar. It's a simple, one-pan style dish perfect for a weeknight dinner, ready in about 30 minutes and serving four people.
Ingredients
- 300g pasta (we used conchiglie)
- 1 head of broccoli cut into small florets
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves crushed
- 250g ham cut into chunks (get a nice thick slice from the deli counter)
- 300ml pot double cream
- 1 tbsp English mustard
- 140g mature cheddar grated
Method
- Boil a large pan of water and cook the pasta according to the packet directions, adding the broccoli florets for the last 4 mins of cooking. Drain and set this aside.
- While the pasta cooks, prepare the sauce. Warm the oil in a large pan and cook the chopped onion for 5 mins until softened. Add the crushed garlic and cook for 1 min more. Mix in the ham chunks, double cream and mustard, then bring the mixture to a boil. Add the drained pasta and broccoli, then stir through the grated cheese until everything is coated in the sauce.
