Cheesy Garlic Sauce
This creamy sauce combines a classic roux with sautéed onion and garlic, deglazed with whiskey for depth. Milk is simmered gently before the thickening roux and your choice of shredded cheese are stirred in to create a luxurious, velvety texture. It's an indulgent topping ready in about 30 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1/2 large yellow onion, Diced
- 5 large garlic cloves, Minced
- 2 cups milk or 2 cups cream
- 1 cup shredded cheese, Your Choice
- 1/8 cup Jack Daniels Whiskey
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Method
- Combine the equal parts of butter and flour to prepare a roux.
- In a saucepan, melt the rest of the butter together with the olive oil.
- Cook the diced onion in the pan until it becomes soft.
- Introduce the minced garlic and cook until just beginning to colour, then pour in the whiskey to deglaze.
- Pour in the milk and allow it to reach a very gentle simmer.
- Whisk in the prepared roux gradually until the sauce begins to thicken. you might not require all of it.
- Once thickened, take the pan off the heat and mix in the shredded cheese until melted.
- Serve immediately over your chosen breakfast item or main dish.
