Cheesy Garlic Sauce for Vegetables
This rich and creamy cheese sauce was created after a search for the perfect recipe came up short. It features a sharp cheddar base with garlic butter and a touch of cayenne pepper for flavour without significant heat. The sauce comes together quickly in a saucepan and is ideal for pouring over lightly cooked vegetables. You can easily adapt it by using your preferred cheese variety.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tablespoons garlic butter
- 2 tablespoons light cream cheese
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1/4-1/2 teaspoon dried cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- salt and pepper
Method
- Place the milk, flour and dried cayenne pepper into a medium saucepan and combine them.
- Introduce the butter and cream cheese to the pan, allowing them to melt over medium-high heat.
- Pour in the lemon juice and add the grated cheddar cheese.
- Melt the cheese while stirring continuously over medium heat until the sauce begins to thicken.
- Turn the heat down to its lowest setting or take the pan off the heat, continuing to stir as the sauce cools a little.
- Enjoy the sauce while warm, poured over steamed broccoli, cauliflower or other vegetables of your choice.
