Cheesy Breadsticks from Pizza Dough

Ingredients

  • 1 lb store-bought or homemade pizza dough*
  • 2 Tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning blend or dried basil
  • 1 and 3/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese*
  • optional: sprinkle of cornmeal for dusting the pan
  • optional: marinara or pizza sauce for dipping

Method

  1. Follow the pizza dough recipe through to step 4. Deflate the risen dough to remove air pockets, then separate it into two equal portions. You can use the second half for a pizza or freeze it according to the dough recipe's guidance.
  2. Heat your oven to 425°F (218°C).
  3. On a floured surface or on parchment paper or a silicone mat dusted with optional cornmeal, roll the dough into an approximate 9×13-inch rectangle. It may resist, but aim for a thin shape close to this size.
  4. Mix the melted butter, garlic, and Italian seasoning in a bowl. Brush this mixture over the rolled dough, then top with an even layer of shredded cheese.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the edges turn golden brown. For a more browned top, you can switch the oven to broil for the final minute.
  6. Cut the baked dough into breadsticks. Enjoy them plain or with marinara sauce. Keep leftovers refrigerated for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
