Cheesy Beef Crescent Roll Pie
This savoury pie features a rich filling of ground beef and onion cooked with spaghetti sauce and diced tomatoes, all seasoned with salt and pepper. The mixture is layered with mozzarella cheese before being covered with a buttery crescent roll topping sprinkled with Parmesan. It bakes to a golden finish for a satisfying family meal. The recipe serves six people and takes about 50 minutes to prepare and cook.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 0.5 onion, chopped
- 1 (15 ounce) can spaghetti sauce
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1 tablespoon salted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Method
- Heat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- In a cast iron skillet, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the meat is browned and crumbly, which takes 5 to 7 minutes. Pour off any excess fat. Place the skillet back over the heat, stir in the spaghetti sauce and drained diced tomatoes, then season with salt and pepper. Continue cooking until everything is hot. Scatter the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top.
- Take the crescent dough from its package and lay the individual triangles over the layer of cheese in the skillet. Use a brush to coat the dough with the melted butter, then sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over it.
- Place the skillet in the heated oven and bake until the crust turns a golden brown colour, about 20 minutes.
