Each sandwich is wrapped in foil and baked, resulting in a wonderfully warm, gooey and satisfying lunch or snack. The recipe yields four generous sandwiches and is ready in about 25 minutes, offering a comforting and filling meal.
Ingredients
- 1 (6 ounce) can chunk light tuna
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon capers, coursely chopped
- 2 tablespoons green onions, finely chopped
- 4 tablespoons cream cheese spread
- 4 slices tomatoes
- 4 tablespoons gouda cheese (or another mild cheese) or 4 tablespoons monterey jack cheese (or another mild cheese)
- 4 large kaiser rolls
Method
- Heat your oven to 375°F.
- Mix the drained tuna with mayonnaise, lemon juice, chopped capers and green onion in a bowl. Set this mixture aside.
- Slice a thin layer from the top of each kaiser roll and keep these tops. Hollow out the inside of each roll, leaving a shell roughly 1/2-inch thick.
- Apply one tablespoon of cream cheese spread to the base of every hollowed roll. Divide the prepared tuna mixture evenly among the rolls.
- Place a tomato slice over the tuna in each bun. Sprinkle one tablespoon of your chosen grated cheese over each tomato slice.
- Put the saved roll tops back on each sandwich, pressing down gently. Wrap every bun securely in foil and bake for 20-25 minutes.
