Cheesy Bacon Ultimate Dogs
This American lunch recipe transforms classic hot dogs into a decadent treat. Each hot dog is butterflied and filled with sharp cheddar cheese and a smear of mustard. The loaded dogs are then tightly wrapped in strips of thick-cut bacon and secured with toothpicks before being grilled. The result is a perfectly cooked, flavourful hot dog with crispy bacon, served in a soft bun with a garnish of fresh dill pickle. The whole process takes just 20 minutes to complete.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
- 4 hot dogs, butterflied
- 2 ounces cheddar cheese, sliced into 8 matchsticks
- 4 strips thick-cut bacon
- 8 toothpicks
- 4 hot dog buns, split
- 1 large (5 inch) dill pickle, sliced into 8 long strips
Method
- Collect all the required items. Prepare your grill for cooking and lightly grease the grate with oil.
- Spread 1/4 teaspoon of mustard inside each prepared hot dog. Insert two matchsticks of cheddar cheese into every hot dog.
- Attach one end of a bacon strip to a hot dog using a toothpick. Wind the bacon firmly around the full length of the hot dog and fix the other end with a second toothpick. Repeat this process for all the hot dogs.
- Grill the prepared hot dogs until they are hot and the bacon is fully cooked, which should take 4 to 5 minutes for each side.
- Transfer each grilled hot dog to a split bun and finish with two slices of dill pickle.
