Cheesy Bacon Tater Tots

Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 (32 ounce) package frozen bite-size potato nuggets (such as Tater Tots®)
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
  • 0.25 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions

Method

  1. Set your oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) to preheat.
  2. Fry the bacon slices in a large cast iron skillet until they are crisp on both sides, which should take about 10 minutes. Transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels, leaving the fat in the pan.
  3. Lower the heat and place the frozen potato nuggets into the skillet. Sprinkle with garlic salt and toss to coat them in the fat. Fry for about 10 minutes until the exteriors are crisp, turning them once or twice with a spatula. Then take the skillet off the heat.
  4. Take half of the potato nuggets out of the skillet. Arrange the remaining nuggets in one layer. Sprinkle half of the Cheddar cheese over them. Place the reserved nuggets on top, followed by the rest of the cheese.
  5. Put the skillet into your preheated oven. Bake for about 10 minutes, until the nuggets are hot and the cheese has melted and begun to brown.
  6. As the nuggets bake, crumble the cooked bacon. Once baked, take the skillet from the oven and finish with the crumbled bacon, sour cream, and chopped green onions.
