Cheesy Bacon, Ham, and Swiss Tater Tots Poutine
This indulgent dish puts a fun twist on classic poutine by using crispy potato nuggets as the base. They are baked until golden, then generously loaded with a rich brown gravy, diced ham, and a blend of Swiss and Cheddar cheeses. The final toppings include crumbled bacon, fresh chives, and smoky bacon cheddar cheese curds for extra flavour and texture. Perfect as a hearty side or a shareable starter for four people.
Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package frozen bite-size potato nuggets (such as Tater Tots®)
- 0.5 cup brown gravy
- 0.25 cup diced ham
- 0.25 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 0.25 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- 3 slices bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh chives
- 4 smokey bacon cheddar cheese curds
Method
- Set your oven to heat to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
- Arrange the frozen potato nuggets in a single, even layer across a baking tray.
- Bake them in the hot oven for about 20 minutes, until they become crisp and turn a light golden colour.
- Take the tray from the oven and layer on the brown gravy, followed by the diced ham, Swiss cheese, and Cheddar cheese. Place it back in the oven and continue baking for about 5 minutes, just until the cheeses have fully melted.
- Finish the dish by sprinkling over the crumbled bacon and chopped chives. Dot the smoky bacon cheddar cheese curds around the tray and serve immediately while hot.
