Cheesesteak Stromboli
This recipe cleverly unites two beloved dishes into one convenient appetiser. Thinly sliced beef sandwich steaks are cooked with onion, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce, then layered with American cheese inside refrigerated pizza dough. The filled dough is rolled, sealed, and baked until golden. After a brief rest, it's sliced into perfect bite-sized portions ideal for sharing. The entire process takes about 35 minutes from start to finish, yielding four servings.
Ingredients
- cooking spray
- 1 (21 ounce) package frozen beef sandwich steaks
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 1 (13.8 ounce) can refrigerated pizza dough (such as Pillsbury®)
- 0.5 pound American cheese, thinly sliced
Method
- Set your oven to heat to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- Apply cooking spray to a skillet and place it over heat. Crumble the sandwich steaks by hand into the pan, cooking and stirring for 5 to 7 minutes until browned. Remove any extra grease. Mix in the diced onion, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, salt, and pepper, then set this mixture aside.
- Place the pizza dough on a flat surface and stretch it to form a 12-inch square. Arrange a portion of the beef mixture along one end, keeping a 1-inch border clear on the sides. Place four half-slices of American cheese over the beef. Roll the dough up from that end, sealing the sides. Continue this process with the rest of the filling and cheese.
- Close the final seam of the roll and move it to a baking sheet that does not require greasing.
- Bake in your preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes until the exterior turns a golden brown colour. Allow it to stand for 5 minutes before slicing it into 1-inch pieces.
