Brownie Tassies

⏱ 30 mins 🍽 24 tassies 🏷 Tarts

These Brownie Tassies are delightful individual tarts. A pastry base is filled with a whole hazelnut and topped with a rich chocolate mixture before baking. The result is a perfect bite-sized dessert that combines a crisp shell with a soft, nutty chocolate centre. They are best removed from their tins while still warm to ensure they come out cleanly. This recipe yields 24 tassies.

Brownie Tassies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 hazelnuts

Method

  1. Set your oven to 350°F. Prepare the tassie pastry from recipe #59854 and use it to line your mini muffin cups.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the chocolate chips together with the butter.
  3. Take the saucepan off the heat.
  4. Mix the sugar, beaten egg and vanilla into the melted chocolate mixture.
  5. Position one whole hazelnut into the middle of each pastry-lined cup.
  6. Spoon approximately one rounded teaspoon of the chocolate mixture over each hazelnut.
  7. Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  8. As soon as they are baked, use the tip of a pointed knife to carefully lift each tassie from its cup onto a cooling rack.
  9. Leaving them to cool in the pan will make them harder to extract.
  10. Your initial attempts might break, but you will quickly master the technique for perfect removal.
