Brown Sugar Smokies
These irresistible appetisers feature cocktail sausages wrapped in bacon and generously coated with brown sugar. Once baked, the sugar melts into a sticky glaze that crisps the bacon. They are quick to assemble and always a crowd-pleaser, making them ideal for parties or as a savoury snack. The recipe yields enough for a group and is ready in about half an hour.
Ingredients
- 1 pound bacon
- 1 (16 ounce) package little smokie sausages
- 1 cup brown sugar, or to taste
Method
- Set your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) to preheat.
- Slice each bacon strip into three pieces. Encircle each little smokie sausage with a piece of bacon. Thread several of the wrapped sausages onto individual wooden skewers. Place the skewers on a baking tray and cover them generously with brown sugar.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, turning the skewers once during cooking, until the bacon is crisp and the sugar has melted.
- Move the skewers to a platter. Allow them to rest for 5 minutes before serving. the glaze will become thicker as it cools down.
