Finished with sliced green onions and a seasoning of soy sauce, it's a simple yet deeply satisfying way to start the day. The entire process takes just 15 minutes, making it an ideal quick and filling morning meal for one.

Breakfast Rice from Japan

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup cold cooked rice, or more to taste
  • 1 egg, or more to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced, or more to taste
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce, or to taste

Method

  1. Place a large skillet over the heat and add the vegetable oil. Once hot, arrange the cold cooked rice in an even layer and fry until the underside becomes crispy, which should take 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Crack the egg directly into the rice and stir continuously until it is fully scrambled, cooking for about 2 minutes more. Finish by scattering the sliced green onions over the top and drizzling with soy sauce to taste.
