Baked Fish with Lemon & Black Pepper
This straightforward recipe yields tender, flavourful baked fish. Your chosen fillets are coated in a spiced marinade featuring cumin, turmeric, garlic and black pepper, then left to rest. After marinating, they are baked in a dish until cooked through and flaky. A final drizzle of fresh lemon juice just before serving adds a bright, zesty finish. Ingredients
- 1 lb fish fillet, your choice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh black pepper, Ground
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice, fresh squeezed
Method
- Put the fish fillets into a medium bowl and add the salt, turmeric, cumin, black pepper and minced garlic, tossing everything to coat the fish evenly.
- Cover the bowl and let the fish marinate in the fridge for 50 - 60 minutes.
- Heat your oven to 400 degrees F.
- Use the vegetable oil to lightly coat the base of an 8 x 8 inch baking dish.
- Arrange the marinated fish in one layer in the prepared dish and pour any remaining marinade over the top.
- Bake the dish without a cover for 20-25 minutes.
- The fish should feel firm when touched.
- It is ready when it flakes apart easily with a fork.
- Drizzle the fresh lemon juice over the fish about 5 minutes before you plan to serve it.
