Baked Blazing Hot Wings
This recipe simplifies making chicken wings by starting from frozen. The wings are baked until their skin is crisp and the meat is fully cooked. While they bake, a tangy and spicy sauce is prepared on the hob using hot pepper sauce, butter, vinegar, and a little flour for thickness. Once the wings are done, they are tossed in the warm sauce to create a crowd-pleasing appetiser ideal for gatherings.
Ingredients
- 5 pounds frozen chicken wings
- 2 cups hot pepper sauce (such as Frank's RedHot®)
- 0.5 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Method
- Collect the required ingredients.
- Set your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Place the frozen chicken wings in one layer inside a shallow baking dish.
- Bake the wings for 25 minutes. Turn them over and cook for about 20 minutes more until the skin is crispy and the meat is cooked through, reaching at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C) on an instant-read thermometer.
- While the wings bake, place the hot sauce, butter, and vinegar into a saucepan.
- Heat the mixture, stirring, until the butter has fully melted, which should take about 5 minutes.
- Add the flour and whisk to create a smooth sauce. Keep cooking and stirring for about 5 minutes more until the sauce thickens.
- Let the cooked wings drain of any grease and rest for 5 minutes. Move them to a large bowl, pour the sauce over them, and toss until evenly coated.
