Applewood Farmhouse Apple Fritters
This recipe recreates the delightful apple fritters served at the Applewood Farmhouse restaurant in Sevierville. You will need self-rising flour, sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and finely chopped apples. The batter is simply stirred together before being spooned into hot oil to fry until golden. Once drained, the warm fritters are rolled in confectioners' sugar for a classic finish. They are best enjoyed immediately, ideally with a cold glass of milk. The recipe yields approximately 36 fritters.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3 cups apples, peeled and chopped (finely)
- hot vegetable oil (for frying, to equal 1/2 inch deep)
- confectioners' sugar
Method
- Mix the self-rising flour and sugar together in a bowl.
- Pour in the beaten eggs, milk, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, and the chopped apples.
- Gently stir the mixture until the ingredients are just incorporated.
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of the prepared batter into the hot vegetable oil.
- Fry the fritters for 3-4 minutes on each side until they turn a golden brown colour.
- Transfer the cooked fritters onto paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Coat the warm fritters generously in powdered sugar before serving.
