Apple Butter Barbecue Burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chuck
  • 1/2 small sweet onion, finely chopped
  • 5 tablespoons light brown sugar, plus
  • 1 teaspoon light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cajun seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon A.1. Original Sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground sage
  • 1/4 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 (8 ounce) can Hunt's tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple butter
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 kaiser rolls, lightly toasted

Method

  1. Mix the ground chuck, chopped onion, 5 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon of light brown sugar, garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, A.1. Original Sauce, ground sage, and Italian breadcrumbs together in a medium bowl.
  2. Shape the combined mixture into four individual burger patties.
  3. To make the sauce, place the tomato sauce, apple butter, and Worcestershire sauce into a small saucepan and stir them together.
  4. Heat the sauce mixture until it just begins to boil.
  5. Cook the burgers on a grill or under a broiler for 4 to 6 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your preference, applying the sauce with a brush during cooking and after you turn them.
  6. Warm any leftover sauce until it bubbles, then serve the burgers on the lightly toasted Kaiser rolls with the sauce.
