Apple and Thyme Martini
This cocktail offers a sweet variation on the traditional martini, featuring vodka, apple juice and a homemade thyme-infused syrup. The drink is shaken with ice and served in chilled glasses, garnished with fresh apple balls and thyme sprigs. Preparing the simple syrup involves simmering sugar, water and thyme for about 5 mins. It is an elegant aperitif ideal for serving guests.
Ingredients
- For the Martini:
- Ice
- 300ml vodka
- 180ml apple juice
- 60ml thyme simple syrup, recipe follows
- 1 large apple, peeled
- 4 fresh thyme sprigs
- For the Thyme Simple Syrup:
- 200g sugar
- 120ml water
- 5 large sprigs fresh thyme
- Special Equipment:
- Melon baller
Method
- Chill four martini glasses.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the vodka, apple juice and thyme syrup to the shaker. Shake for about 10 secs. Pour the mixture into the prepared glasses.
- Use a melon baller to form small spheres from the peeled apple. Add three apple balls and one thyme sprig to each glass as garnish. Serve straight away.
- To make the syrup, place the sugar, water and thyme sprigs in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer until the sugar dissolves, about 5 mins.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool completely. Any leftover cooled syrup can be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
