Air-fryer Chips
Discover how to prepare wonderfully crisp chips using an air fryer. This method requires significantly less oil than traditional deep-frying, offering a lighter option. The process involves cutting potatoes into batons, coating them lightly in oil, and cooking them with a paddle for a perfectly golden and tender result. It's an ideal side dish to serve four people.
Ingredients
- 4-5 large potatoes about 1kg
- 1 tbsp sunflower or olive oil
Method
- For uniform chips, peel the potatoes and remove the rounded edges to form rectangular blocks. Slice these blocks into batons of a medium thickness, similar to chunky fries, to ensure they cook properly without breaking. You can keep the potato trimmings for other uses like mash. If you prefer rustic chips, you can skip the peeling and trimming step. Wash the cut chips and dry them thoroughly with a tea towel.
- Place the dried chips into the air fryer basket that contains the paddle. Pour over the oil and toss everything together until the chips are well coated. Set the air fryer to cook for 30 mins. Once the time is up, test if the chips are soft and fully cooked. Should they need more time, continue cooking for a further 5 mins. Finish by adding plenty of seasoning.
