5-Spice Tilapia
This tilapia recipe is ready in just 15 minutes. The fish is seasoned with five-spice powder, pan-fried, and then glazed in a simple sauce made from soy sauce and brown sugar. Fresh scallions are stirred in at the end for a bright finish, creating a delicious and speedy meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb tilapia fillet
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 3 scallions, thinly sliced
Method
- Coat the tilapia fillets on all sides with the five-spice powder. In a separate small bowl, mix together the soy sauce and brown sugar.
- Warm the oil in a large non-stick frying pan. Place the tilapia in the pan and fry until the edges turn opaque, which should take about 2 minutes. Lower the heat, flip the fish over, give the soy mixture a stir and pour it into the pan.
- Allow the sauce to come to a boil and continue cooking until the fish is completely opaque and the sauce has thickened a little, for approximately 2 minutes more.
- Stir the sliced scallions into the pan and take it off the heat. Plate the fish, spooning the sauce over the top.
