5 Spice Marinade for Steak Tips or Stir Fry
This simple marinade uses Chinese five spice powder to create a savoury and slightly sweet coating for beef. Combine soy sauce, honey, garlic, and brandy or vinegar, then let your meat soak up the flavours. It works wonderfully for thinly sliced stir fry beef or whole steak tips, ready to be cooked on the grill, under the broiler, or quickly fried with vegetables. The entire process takes about 20 minutes of active time, plus a few hours for marinating.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons light soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brandy or 2 tablespoons vinegar (I use vinegar because of my kids)
- 1 -3 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder (I use 2 tsp)
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- white pepper
Method
- Combine all the listed ingredients by whisking them together in a bowl.
- Take one pound of thinly sliced meat for a stir fry or one pound of steak tips, pour the marinade over the meat, place everything in a ziplock bag, and allow it to marinate for a couple of hours.
- Drain off the marinade and proceed to stir fry the meat with your choice of chopped vegetables, or cook the steak tips using a broiler or on a grill.
