5 Minutes Chocolate Mud Cake
This incredibly fast chocolate mud cake is prepared and cooked directly in a mug using a microwave. It requires just a handful of basic ingredients and is ready in about five minutes. The recipe is highly adaptable, with suggestions for turning it into a coffee or lemon cake. It yields two individual servings, perfect for an immediate dessert craving.
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 teaspoon baking powder (I used 1/2 tsp and it turned out fine)
- 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee powder (optional)
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 3 tablespoons oil
- 3 tablespoons chocolate chips
- 1 drop vanilla extract
Method
- Combine all the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
- Pour in the milk, oil, vanilla extract and egg, then stir everything together thoroughly.
- Divide the batter between two mugs, filling each only to the halfway point.
- Microwave the mugs one at a time. Heat for 1 minute on medium. The cake will bubble and rise during cooking. Let it sit briefly, then microwave for a further 30 seconds on medium. The mixture will set but remain slightly molten, as it will carry on cooking from residual heat. Avoid overcooking.
- Let the cakes cool slightly before serving.
