Perfect for gatherings, it serves a crowd and can be prepared ahead of time. The recipe is simple to assemble and bakes briefly to meld the first layers together.

5 Layer Dip - Non Dairy

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef or 2 lbs turkey
  • 30 ounces refried beans
  • 30 ounces corn
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 7 ounces diced green chilies
  • 2 large avocados
  • 1/2 cup salsa, of your choice
  • 14 1/2 ounces diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1 dash pepper

Method

  1. Cook the ground meat with the garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper until browned, then drain the fat. Transfer this mixture to form the base layer in a 13x9 inch baking dish. Spread the refried beans evenly over the meat. Bake this layer in an oven preheated to 350 for 10 minutes.
  2. While the first layer bakes, combine the corn, mayonnaise and diced green chillies in a mixing bowl. Once the meat and bean layer has baked, take it from the oven and spread the corn mixture over the top.
  3. Prepare the guacamole by mashing the avocados and stirring in the salsa. You may use a shop-bought version, but fresh is recommended. Spread this guacamole layer carefully over the corn mixture.
  4. Finish the dip by scattering the drained diced tomatoes evenly across the top. Place the assembled dip in the refrigerator to chill until you are ready to serve it.
  5. Note that this recipe yields a generous amount suitable for 12-15 people. For smaller groups, consider making half the recipe in a smaller dish. Leftovers are best enjoyed the following day, as the avocado may deteriorate after two days.
