5-Ingredient Chicken Parm
This straightforward chicken parmesan dish delivers consistent flavour, whether cooked for a small group or a crowd. It requires only five main components: chicken breasts, breadcrumbs, spaghetti sauce, and two cheeses. The method involves coating and frying the chicken before baking it with sauce and cheese until bubbly. It is a versatile main course ideal for serving with pasta or rice.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (pref. Italian seasoned)
- 1 (26 ounce) can spaghetti sauce (or equiv. homemade, I use Prego because it is sweeter than most.)
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, fresh grated
Method
- Wash the chicken breasts and pat them dry, then coat thoroughly with the breadcrumbs, pressing firmly to tenderise.
- Fry the breaded chicken in a Teflon skillet or with a small amount of olive oil until fully cooked.
- Once the chicken is cooked, transfer it from the pan.
- Spread half of the spaghetti sauce into a 9x5 inch casserole dish.
- Arrange the cooked chicken breasts over the layer of sauce.
- Cover the chicken with the remaining spaghetti sauce.
- Top with the shredded mozzarella and grated parmesan cheese, then bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes until the sauce is hot and the cheese has melted.
- Serve the finished dish over spaghetti or rice.
