5 Alarm Pasta
This is a personal creation, developed through a bit of experimentation. It is a robust pasta dish featuring ground beef cooked with green pepper and onion, all combined in a tomato sauce. The character comes from a custom mix of five different seasonings, including cayenne and crushed red pepper flakes, allowing you to adjust the heat to your liking. It serves four to six people.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 (900 g) bag noodles (rigatoni or penne rigate best)
- 2 (680 ml) cans pasta sauce
- 1 medium green pepper (cut to desired chunks)
- 1 medium onion (cut to desired chunks)
- italian seasoning
- cayenne pepper
- Tex-Mex seasoning
- roasted garlic and red pepper spice mix
- cajun seasoning
- crushed red pepper flakes
Method
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Pour both cans of pasta sauce into a medium pot and warm it over a low heat. Place the ground beef in a frying pan over high heat and begin to break it apart.
- Sprinkle cayenne pepper over one side of the cooking beef, using an amount that suits your taste.
- Once the beef has browned, turn it over and apply cayenne pepper to the other side as before.
- When the beef is fully cooked, add the chunks of green pepper and onion to the pan and cook them for about 5 minute.
- Transfer the cooked beef, onion, and pepper mixture into the pot with the warmed sauce and combine thoroughly.
- Stir the Italian seasoning, Tex Mex seasoning, Cajun seasoning, roasted garlic and red pepper spice mix, and crushed red pepper flakes into the sauce, adjusting the quantities to your preference.
- Place the full bag of noodles into the large pot of boiling water, stirring now and then until they reach your preferred tenderness.
- Drain the cooked noodles and return them to the large pot.
- Pour the seasoned sauce mixture over the noodles and stir well to coat all the pasta evenly.
- Dish up the pasta and enjoy your meal.
