5-4-3-2-1 Pear Cake
This delightful cake recipe comes from a generous friend known for her hospitality. It yields a subtly sweet dessert that is wonderfully straightforward to prepare, requiring only a few basic ingredients. While pears are used here, the recipe welcomes other fruits as a substitute. It serves approximately six people and is ready in about 45 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 1/3 cups flour
- 8 tablespoons sugar
- 6 tablespoons milk
- 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 pear
- butter (optionnal)
- maple sugar, flakes (optionnal)
Method
- Mix the flour, sugar and baking powder together in a bowl and set this aside.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs and vegetable oil.
- Combine the contents of both bowls and pour the resulting batter into a pie plate that has been greased with butter.
- Peel the pear and slice it thinly, then arrange these slices over the top of the cake batter.
- If desired, place small slices of butter on top and sprinkle with maple sugar flakes.
- You may also add dried cranberries or fresh blueberries at this stage.
- Bake the cake in an oven preheated to 350 for about 35 -40 minutes.
