40-Minute Dinner Rolls
These quick dinner rolls require only four basic ingredients and can be prepared and baked in 35 minutes. The recipe uses yeast, water, flour and egg to create a soft, elastic dough that is portioned into 12 pieces. After a brief rest, they bake until golden. They are an ideal, speedy bread to serve with your evening meal.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup water
- cooking spray
- 1 large egg
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
Method
- Combine the yeast and water in a large mixing bowl. Allow this mixture to stand for 5 minutes.
- Heat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Use cooking spray to grease a cookie sheet.
- Mix the egg into the yeast liquid. Gradually incorporate the flour until a dough comes together. Turn the dough out onto a floured worktop and knead it until smooth and elastic. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and arrange them on the prepared sheet. Cover the rolls with aluminium foil and leave them to rest for 10 minutes.
- Place the rolls in the heated oven and bake for 8 to 12 minutes, or until they turn a golden brown colour.
