3rd Serving Meatloaf
This traditional meatloaf is made by combining ground beef with a breadcrumb and milk base, eggs, onion, and seasonings. The mixture is packed into a loaf pan and topped with a sweet sauce made from ketchup, sugars, and spices. It is then baked until cooked through. The recipe yields one loaf, suitable for four to six servings.
Ingredients
- 1 cup dry breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon sage
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
Method
- For the meatloaf, pour the milk over the breadcrumbs and stir until the mixture becomes crumbly. Add the ground beef, eggs, onions, and seasonings, then mix everything thoroughly. Pack this mixture firmly into a loaf pan.
- To make the sweet sauce, combine all the listed sauce ingredients. Pour this sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf. Bake the meatloaf for 1 hour at 350°F.
