3BC Baked Bean Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 0.5 pound bacon
  • 1 (28 ounce) can baked beans (such as Bush's Original®)
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 cup brown sugar, divided

Method

  1. Set your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) to preheat.
  2. Melt the butter in a large skillet. Add the diced onion and cook for 10 to 15 minutes until soft. Move the onion to a 2-quart casserole dish. In the same skillet, cook the bacon for about 10 minutes until browned. Drain it, then cut into pieces.
  3. In the casserole dish, mix together the baked beans, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Add 2/3 of the bacon and 1/4 of the brown sugar, stirring to combine. Layer the rest of the bacon on top and sprinkle with the remaining brown sugar.
  4. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes until the casserole is hot and bubbly.
