3 Kinds of Beans - Baked Bean Dish
This satisfying baked bean dish combines three different canned beans with crispy bacon, onion, and a sweet, tangy sauce made from brown sugar, catsup, and Worcestershire. Baked until bubbling and finished with melted cheese slices, it's a classic, comforting side perfect for gatherings. The recipe yields 4 to 6 servings and takes about 60 minutes to prepare and bake.
Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) can baked beans, undrained
- 1 (16 ounce) can baby lima beans, drained
- 1 (16 ounce) can red kidney beans, drained
- 4 slices bacon (or more)
- 1 medium onion, chopped fine
- 1/2 cup catsup
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 4 slices Velveeta cheese (no substitutes)
Method
- Cook the bacon in a skillet until browned, then set it aside.
- Mix the baked beans, lima beans, kidney beans, chopped onion, catsup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and the cooked bacon together in a 3 quart casserole dish.
- Place the covered dish into a 350 degree oven and bake for 1 hour.
- Take the dish out of the oven, arrange the cheese slices on top, and bake uncovered just until the cheese has melted.
