3-Ingredient Bacon Bites
These tasty bacon bites are a simple yet satisfying breakfast option. Each one is made by wrapping a cube of mozzarella cheese in a patty of breakfast sausage, then encasing it in a slice of bacon. After a brief chill, they are baked until the bacon is perfectly crisp. They are traditionally served with a quick homemade ketchup made from tomato paste, vinegar, and seasonings.
Ingredients
- 3 ounces mozzarella string cheese, cut into 12 cubes
- 1 lb breakfast sausage, shaped into 12 patties
- 12 slices bacon
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Method
- Begin by heating your oven to 375 degrees. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
- Take a cube of string cheese and position it on a sausage patty. Enclose the cheese completely by shaping the sausage around it, ensuring a tight seal.
- Wrap one slice of bacon around each sausage ball. Transfer them to your lined baking sheet and place in the freezer for 10 minutes.
- Bake the prepared bites for 30 minutes, or until the bacon becomes crispy.
- For the ketchup, put the tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and 1/4 cup of water into a small saucepan.
- Allow the ketchup mixture to simmer for 10 minutes. Once cooled, it is ready to serve with the hot bacon bites.
