3 Donut Frosting Flavours
This guide provides recipes for three distinct frostings to top your homemade donuts. You'll create a fresh strawberry glaze, a classic vanilla icing, and a smooth chocolate coating. Each flavour yields sufficient frosting for approximately 12 donuts, including the holes. The process is straightforward, taking about 10 minutes to prepare the toppings once your donuts are cooked and ready for decorating.
Ingredients
- 1 batch homemade donuts without the glaze*
- 5 large fresh strawberries (about 100g)
- 1 and 3/4 cups (210g) confectioners’ sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 Tablespoon strawberry jam or preserves
- 3 Tablespoons (43g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 and 1/2 cups (180g) confectioners’ sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 3 Tablespoons (45ml) milk
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup (135g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3 Tablespoons (43g) unsalted butter
- 1 Tablespoon light corn syrup
- 1 Tablespoon water
Method
- Make your donuts following the recipe instructions. Once fried and still warm, set them aside to prepare the frostings.
- Blend the strawberries in a food processor until smooth. In a medium bowl, combine the strawberry puree with confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and strawberry jam. Dip each donut into this strawberry glaze 2 or 3 times, as it is thinner, and add sprinkles if you like.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, 2 Tablespoons (30ml) of milk, and salt. For a thinner consistency, mix in the remaining 1 Tablespoon (15ml) of milk. Submerge the donuts in this vanilla frosting and decorate with sprinkles if desired.
- Combine the chocolate chips, butter, corn syrup, and water in a medium bowl. Microwave the mixture in 20 second intervals, stirring well after each, until it is fully melted and glossy. Coat the donuts in the chocolate frosting and finish with sprinkles as an optional garnish.
