3 Cheese Au Gratin Potatoes With Bacon
This indulgent potato bake is a crowd-pleasing side dish. Thinly sliced potatoes are layered in a creamy, seasoned sauce with a trio of cheeses and crumbled bacon. The dish is baked until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden. It yields two pans, making it ideal for gatherings or meal prep. The total preparation and cooking time is 80 minutes.
Ingredients
- 10 large potatoes
- 1 quart heavy cream
- 2 1/2 cups grated parmesan cheese
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup asiago cheese
- 1 cup butter
- 3 tablespoons onion powder
- 3 tablespoons garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon parsley
- crumbled bacon
Method
- Preheat the oven to 400F.
- Slice the potatoes and place them in a bowl of water.
- Melt the butter in a large saucepan, then stir in the heavy cream, parsley, garlic powder, and onion powder. Bring the mixture to a soft boil.
- Once it reaches a soft boil, turn off the heat. Add the sliced potatoes to the pan and let them sit for 10-15 minutes.
- In a buttered lasagna pan, create a thin layer of potatoes. Top with a layer of grated parmesan, mozzarella, asiago, and crumbled bacon. Evenly pour one ladle of the cream mixture over the layer. Repeat this process until the pan is filled to within 1 inch of the top.
- Pour in enough of the remaining cream to cover the potatoes.
- Sprinkle a little extra cheese on top. Cover the pan, but leave one side open to vent steam.
- After 35 minutes, check if the potatoes are soft. If not, cook for another 15 minutes.
- Uncover the pan and cook for a final 15 minutes.
- Allow the dish to stand before serving. the sauce will thicken as it rests.
