3-2-1 Spaghetti Sauce
This robust spaghetti sauce is named for its key ingredient proportions. It combines beef, Italian sausage, and a trio of tomato products for a rich flavour. Simmered with onions, peppers, and herbs, it creates a thick, satisfying sauce ideal for pasta. Ingredients
- 1 lb hamburger
- 1 lb Italian sausage, sliced 1 inch
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon basil
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 3 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
Method
- Brown the hamburger in a large stock pot, then drain off the fat.
- Cook the sliced Italian sausage in the same pot until browned, then drain.
- Cook the sliced onion and diced bell pepper for a few minutes. Stir in the minced garlic, basil, oregano, thyme, and bay leaf, cooking for 1 more minute.
- Return all the cooked meat to the pot with the vegetables.
- Pour in the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes, mixing thoroughly. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 1 hour.
- Incorporate the tomato paste, stirring it in well, and cook for a few more minutes.
