24 Hour Lettuce Salad

Ingredients

  • 1 head lettuce
  • 1 (8 ounce) package frozen peas, keep frozen
  • parmesan cheese, grated in can
  • 2 tomatoes, cut into wedges
  • 1 cup onion, diced
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup celery, sliced thin
  • 2 cups Hellmann's mayonnaise, must use Hellman's
  • 2 eggs, hard boiled and sliced
  • 6 ounces water chestnuts, sliced
  • 3/4 lb bacon, fried and crumbled (not bacon bits)

Method

  1. Shred the lettuce and place it into a 9x13 inch pan.
  2. Layer the diced onions, sliced celery, and sliced water chestnuts on top of the lettuce.
  3. Break apart the frozen peas and sprinkle them evenly over the other ingredients.
  4. Use the Hellman's mayonnaise to cover the entire surface, spreading it to the edges to seal everything in.
  5. Sprinkle the sugar and the grated parmesan cheese over the mayonnaise layer.
  6. Cover the dish and place it in the refrigerator to chill overnight.
  7. Just before serving, top the salad with the crumbled fried bacon and decorate it with the sliced hard-boiled eggs and tomato wedges.
