This simple tomato sauce comes together in just half an hour using canned pantry staples. It's a fantastic base for pasta dishes and can be adapted with additions like ground beef or sausage. Ingredients
- 1 (15 ounce) can crushed plum tomatoes (undrained)
- 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup tomato paste
- 1/4 cup dry red wine
- 4 teaspoons freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
Method
- Place every ingredient into a medium saucepan.
- Bring the mixture up to a boil, giving it a stir now and then.
- Turn the heat down and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, until it thickens, about 20 minutes.
- Take out the bay leaf and serve the sauce warm over pasta, adding extra cheese if you like.
