This satisfying gnocchi dish combines Italian sausage and broccoli in a rich, creamy Alfredo sauce for a complete meal. Using convenient frozen and jarred ingredients, it comes together in under half an hour, making it a perfect choice for a speedy weeknight dinner. The recipe serves eight people generously.
Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package frozen chopped broccoli
- 1 pound bulk Italian sausage
- 1 (16 ounce) package potato gnocchi
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 (15 ounce) jar Alfredo sauce
- 0.25 cup water
- 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper, or more to taste
Method
- Put the broccoli in a dish suitable for the microwave and cook it for 7 minutes.
- As the broccoli cooks, fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring it to a rolling boil.
- Simultaneously, place a large, deep skillet on the heat. Cook the sausage, stirring and breaking it up, until it is browned, crumbly and nearly crunchy, about 10 minutes, using a metal spatula to scrape up any browned bits.
- Drop the gnocchi into the boiling water and cook them for 2 to 4 minutes, until they rise to the surface.
- While the gnocchi are cooking, add the butter, garlic and Italian seasoning to the sausage in the skillet. Lower the heat and cook while stirring for 1 minute. Mix in the Alfredo sauce. Pour the water into the empty sauce jar, shake it, and add the contents to the skillet. Stir in the Parmesan cheese. Fold in the cooked broccoli and season with pepper.
- Remove the cooked gnocchi from the water with a slotted spoon and transfer them to the skillet. Gently stir everything together to combine.
