20-minute beef in red wine
This single-serving casserole delivers a rich and warming meal in a short time. Sirloin or rump steak is first browned, then combined with onion, garlic, oregano, red wine and chopped tomatoes to create a hearty sauce. The entire dish cooks in one pan, making it a convenient option for a satisfying lunch or supper. It is traditionally served with pasta, chips or fried potatoes.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 200g sirloin or rump steak
- 1small onion sliced
- 1 garlic clove finely sliced
- pinch dried oregano
- glass red wine
- 200g can chopped tomato
Method
- Warm the oil in a pan. Cook the steak for 2 mins on each side until browned. Transfer the steak to a plate, then add the onion, garlic and oregano to the pan. Cook for 5 mins until they begin to colour.
- Pour the wine and tomatoes into the pan, then cook for 10 mins until the sauce thickens. Cut the steak into pieces, add it back to the pan with any resting juices, and warm through for a few mins. Serve with pasta, chips or fried potatoes.
